On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 10:03 p.m., the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) received a call reporting a fire involving a dwelling at the corner of Skyview and Airway Drives in New Orleans East. Dispatched directly, the first NOFD company arrived on the scene at 10:07 p.m. An unoccupied two-story townhouse, at 6060 Airway Dr., was heavily involved in flames upon arrival, this prompted the immediate request for a second alarm contingent of NOFD Fire Operations personnel at 10:08 p.m.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire mostly contained to the original fire building, protecting the row of occupied dwellings. An adjoining unoccupied townhouse, 6054 Airway Dr., did receive moderate fire and water damage.
Seventeen NOFD units, supported by forty-two, NOFD Fire Operations personnel were used to bring this incident under control at 10:35 p.m. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
