Election Day Was Just the Beginning

With the hangover effect from Election Day still in full effect, it's important to remember that the wheels of the American political process continue to grind onward irrespective of the news cycle or the outcome of still too-close-to-call races for the Senate and House of Representatives. The coming days and weeks will be a flurry of activity in Washington, DC in the lead up to the Inauguration and the start of the next Congress. • Monday, November 11, 2024: Official start for the Trump/Vance transition teams (here is a link to the timeline for a presidential transition)
• Tuesday November 12, 2024: Senate Republican Steering Committee Leader Candidate Forum (The process for selecting Republican Senate Committee Chairmen.)
• Wednesday, November 13, 2024: Senate Republican leadership internal party election (With Leader McConnell retiring, the race is between John Barrasso of Wyoming, Rick Scott of Florida, John Thune of South Dakota, and John Cornyn of Texas.)
• Tuesday, November 12-Friday November 22, 2024: New Member Orientation in Congress (Think new-employee orientation for Congress, down to the insurance forms and IT briefings. Here is a link to the Congressional Management Foundation on the orientation process.)
• Wednesday, November 13, 2024: House Republican Leadership Candidate Forum (Candidates for the Leader, Whip, and other leadership positions make their case to the Conference at large.)
• Wednesday, November 13, 2024: House Republican 119th Organizing Conference and Leadership Elections
• Thursday, November 14, 2024: House Republican Conference Rules Amendment Forum
• Thursday, November 14, 2024: House Republican 119th Organizing Conference
• Friday, November 15, 2024: House Republican 119th Organizing Conference, Conference Rules, and Steering Committee Structure Ratification (This is where the House GOP agrees on the rules it must abide by in the 119^th This applies only to House Republicans.)
• Mid-November to Early December: States Count and Certify Votes
• Monday, December 16, 2024: Meeting of the Electoral College to cast votes for President and Vice President. Results are sent to Congress
• Friday, January 3, 2025: 119th Congress Swearing-in
• Monday, January 6, 2025: Congress counts and certifies electoral votes
• Monday, January 20, 2025: Inauguration Day
