Angela Miedema, director of Volusia County Animal Services, was recently elected to the National Animal Control Association Board, which is dedicated to elevating professionalism in animal welfare and public safety through training, networking, and advocacy.

With over 15 years of animal welfare experience and being a certified professional dog trainer, Miedema is committed to enhancing animal service operations throughout Volusia County. She champions cross-training between animal control and law enforcement to raise awareness of the critical role of animal control in community safety. She has a master's degree in business administration and a bachelor's degree in pre-veterinary medicine.

In her role as animal services director, Miedema has spearheaded operational improvements with a focus on animal behavior training for animal control officers. Her efforts have strengthened the capabilities of officers in recognizing signs of cruelty and effectively managing enforcement scenarios.
