FDNY Commissioner Tucker and PAL Announce Series of Fire Prevention Month Events to Promote Fire Safety Education

October 22, 2024

During National Fire Prevention Month, FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker and the Police Athletic League (PAL) of New York today announced a series of fire safety education events for New York City youth in Manhattan, the Bronx, and on Staten Island.

The first event will take place at Harlem PAL on Wednesday, October 23 at 11:00 a.m. The second event will take place at the Webster PAL on Thursday, October 24, just two blocks from the site of the tragic Twin Parks fire that killed 17 New Yorkers. The final event will be at P.S. 13 on Staten Island on November 4th.

This initiative aims to engage over 150 children from Grades 2-5 at each event through activities that promote FDNY careers, enhance emergency preparedness and readiness, and bolster community engagement efforts. Members from the FDNY's Fire Safety Education and Mobile CPR Units, Robotics Unit, and BFI K-9 Unit will provide smokehouse simulations, tours of FDNY Fire and EMS apparatus, drone and robotics demonstrations, fire safety education presentations, and much more.
