UPDATE ON TYPHOON KRISTINE (TRAMI) AND THE APPROACHING TYPHOON LEON

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila, is closely monitoring Tropical Typhoon Kristine (Trami), that has brought heavy and intense rains and caused widespread flooding and landslides, resulting in a number of deaths, injuries and the displacement of hundreds of families.

As of today, the wind signal for Typhoon Kristine, categorised as a Level Two tropical cyclone, remains active in Metro Manila and various regions of Luzon. This typhoon is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility later today.

Currently, another typhoon, set to be named "Leon", is currently located 2,500 kilometres away from the Visayas and is projected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility by Sunday, 27 October 2024.

Malaysia extends its deepest condolences and sympathies to the Government and people of the Philippines, especially victims and families affected by the incidents. The Ministry is currently coordinating with the relevant agencies on the assistance that would be rendered to the Philippines.

Thus far, there were no Malaysians reported to be involved or affected by the typhoon. Malaysians in the affected areas are urged to stay vigilant and follow the latest updates and guidance provided by the local authorities.
