FEMA Disaster Assistance Center in Homewood

On Sept. 23, U.S. President Joe Biden approved a disaster declaration in Illinois from the severe weather that hit the state from July 13-16, 2024. Illinois residents impacted by these storms will be eligible for federal individual financial assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), as well as other programs offered by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Registration is currently open for all impacted residents until Tuesday, Nov. 19.

FEMA, Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) and Cook County Emergency Management and Regional Security (CCEMRS) are currently using the Homewood Auditorium for a Disaster Recovery Center through Wednesday, Nov. 6. This center will serve as an area and regional facility that will provide assistance to individuals impacted by the July severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding. Specialists from FEMA, the State of Illinois and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be at the center to help survivors apply for federal disaster assistance, upload documents, get their questions answered in person, access other types of help that may be available and learn ways to make their property more disaster resistant. Assistance in languages other than English, including American sign language, and translated materials will be available at the centers.

The center is open from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. at 2010 Chestnut in Homewood. Other ways to register for help are via the FEMA app, visiting www.disasterassistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362.
