Level Up: Exploring Collegiate Esports at Newark Tech Week

On October 15, tech and esports enthusiasts gathered at Seton Hall's satellite space in Two Gateway Center in Newark for "Level Up: Exploring the Collegiate Esports Landscape," hosted by Newark Tech Week and Seton Hall Esports manager, Victor Gomez. This dynamic event provided attendees with a deep dive into the rapidly growing world of collegiate esports, showcasing how universities are incorporating esports into their athletic programs while building competitive teams and fostering student involvement.

The session began with an engaging discussion on the history of esports in the collegiate space, followed by an exploration of the diverse opportunities it offers students. Participants discovered professional pathways not only as competitive players but also in areas like marketing, broadcasting, and game development. The talk highlighted how universities are building career pathways in the gaming industry and preparing students for future careers.

Following the discussion, attendees had the chance to test their skills against collegiate players. Participants engaged in a hands-on gaming experience, competing against and learning from skilled players in the popular esports title, Super Smash Bros.
