Declaration of Weimar Triangle top diplomats on Moldova's EU future

17.09.2024

On 17 September 2024, minister Radosław Sikorski, together with his German and French counterparts, Annalena Baerbock and Stéphane Séjourné, visited Chișinău to jointly voice support for the Republic of Moldova's European aspirations.

The Weimar Triangle foreign ministers attended, among other events, the fifth edition of the Moldova Partnership Forum, which is aimed at ensuring Moldova's secure future in the family of the European Union member states.

Moldova's President Maia Sandu referred to the presence of the European ministers: "with you by our side, we are even stronger. Today, Moldova is at a crossroads, but it is not a crossroads where we do not know where to go. We know the direction well: forward, towards a European future, where peace and prosperity are the order of the day. The future of our country is not built overnight, but every step we take together brings us closer to that stable, European future, where every citizen lives with dignity and in safety."

In Chișinău, Polish, German, and French foreign ministers released a Joint Declaration, in which they have explicitly backed Moldova's EU membership and underlined further support in countering all Russia's attempts to destabilise the country.

Radosław Sikorski, Annalena Baerbock, and Stéphane Séjourné also guaranteed that their countries will use dedicated European programmes to support Moldova's defence capabilities and the security of its citizens.

The English version of the Declaration is available below.
