Everytown Supporters, Alongside Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action Volunteers, Made More Than 12 Million Voter Contacts To Support Gun Sense Candidates Nationwide
RALEIGH, N.C- Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as voters elected Josh Stein as the Governor of North Carolina.
"North Carolina voters just elected a proven gun sense champion in Josh Stein, who fought hard as Attorney General for common-sense measures to keep guns out of dangerous hands," said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. "Everytown is eager to work with Governor-elect Stein to pass more laws to keep North Carolina's children, families and law enforcement safe from gun violence."
"Electing Josh Stein, who dedicated his time as Attorney General to fighting for gun safety measures, is a powerful win for our movement," said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. "Governor-elect Stein has proven himself as a leader for North Carolina and voters sent a clear message of rejection when it came to his opponent's extremist views that posed a direct threat to the safety and freedoms of our communities. With this victory, we can continue advocating for the gun safety measures that North Carolina deserves."
"Voters chose common sense over nonsense when they elected Josh Stein and defeated the hatred, bigotry, and extremism of Mark Robinson," said Sam Mell, a Students Demand Action National Organizing Board member from North Carolina. "Governor-elect Stein has built a record of standing with students in our fight for gun safety and we're excited to work together to keep our communities safe."
"With Josh Stein as our Governor-elect, we will have a dedicated ally in the fight for gun safety in North Carolina," said Dr. Beverly Falls, a volunteer with the Moms Demand Action chapter of North Carolina. "We are thrilled to collaborate with him to create a North Carolina where we feel safe in our homes, schools, and communities."
Earlier this year, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Victory Fund announced a $45 million major electoral program, which included launching a new grassroots voter contact program to help elect gun sense candidates and defeat gun extremists up and down the ballot in key swing districts and states. These efforts focused on young voters on college campuses, voters of color, and suburban women in Arizona, California, Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. As part of the electoral program, Everytown hired and deployed 36 field organizers across the ten states.
