Gary I. Bowen

Dr. Bowen (Florida '81), 78, Maitland, Florida, died July 28, 2024. He owned Edgewater Animal Hospital, a small animal practice in Orlando, Florida, for 36 years prior to retirement in 2019. Dr. Bowen was a member of the Florida and Central Florida VMAs and was active with the Veterinary Emergency Clinic of Central Florida. He was a veteran of the Air Force. Dr. Bowen is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; two sons; and his siblings.

William D. Fishback Jr.

Dr. Fishback (Auburn '73), 76, Lexington, Kentucky, died July 16, 2024. An equine veterinarian, he worked at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, where he served as president for more than a decade prior to retirement in 2018. Dr. Fishback also bred Thoroughbreds and Angus cattle. Earlier in his career, he practiced at Woodford Veterinary Clinic in Versailles, Kentucky.

Dr. Fishback served on the AVMA Council on Education from 2001-07. He was a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, Kentucky VMA, and Thoroughbred Club of America, and was active with the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation and Woodford Humane Society. Dr. Fishback is survived by two daughters, three grandchildren, and a sister. Memorials may be made to Central Kentucky Riding for Hope, P.O. Robert G. Lindsey

Dr. Lindsey (Purdue '66), 81, Plymouth, Indiana, died August 16, 2024. He practiced small animal medicine at Plymouth Veterinary Clinic for more than 50 years prior to retirement in 2020. Dr. Lindsey is survived by three sons; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister.

David R. Luck

Dr. Luck (Colorado State '60), 88, Berthoud, Colorado, died July 8, 2024. Following graduation, he served in the Army. Dr. Luck subsequently established a small animal practice in Littleton, Colorado. He later founded Veterinary Surgical Relief Services, serving the Denver area, and focused on reconstructive orthopedic and soft tissue surgical procedures. During that time, after receiving certification in human surgical technology, Dr. Luck also worked at the University of Colorado's medical center. He traveled to Peru and Bolivia to evaluate projects for Heifer International and lectured on surgical techniques at the University of Guangzhou in China. Dr. Luck retired in 2016.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Moran; a son, a daughter, a stepson, and stepdaughter; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister. Andrea S. Nordrum

Dr. Nordrum (Michigan State '71), 76, Yale, Michigan, died August 7, 2024. She practiced small animal medicine at Yale Veterinary Hospital for 27 years prior to retirement in 2023. Earlier in her career, Dr. Nordrum worked at practices in the Grosse Pointe area of Michigan, the Macomb Humane Society, and at Westcott Veterinary Hospital in Detroit. She is survived by her family. Peter Earl Poss

Dr. Poss (Minnesota '57), 90, Willmar, Minnesota, died July 31, 2024. Following graduation, he served two years in the Army Veterinary Corps. Dr. Poss subsequently worked in Paynesville, Minnesota, before buying a practice in Litchfield, Minnesota. In 1965, he began working for Earl B. Olson Farms in Willmar. Dr. Poss served initially as general manager, becoming a vice president when the business was renamed Jennie-O Foods. He retired in 1990.

Dr. Poss went on to serve as a poultry veterinarian and as assistant to the dean at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. He later worked more than a decade as a veterinary poultry consultant. A diplomate of the American College of Poultry Veterinarians, Dr. Poss was a past vice chair of the AVMA Council on Veterinary Service. He was a past president of the Minnesota VMA (MVMA) and helped develop the Minnesota Veterinary Historical Museum, serving as president of its board of directors.

In 1996, Dr. Poss was named MVMA Veterinarian of the Year. In 2003, what is now known as the University of Minnesota College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences honored him with a Siehl Prize of Excellence in Agriculture. Dr. Poss is survived by his wife, Emilie; two sons and three daughters; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Yaron Shmueli

Dr. Shmueli, 54, Santa Rosa Valley, California, died April 26, 2024. A 2002 graduate of the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest in Hungary, he practiced at All Vet Care Animal Hospital in Camarillo, California. Earlier, Dr. Shmueli worked in Miami and Harleysville, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the South California VMA. Dr. Shmueli is survived by his wife, Dr. Sharon Gold, a 1999 graduate of the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest, and four sons.

Richard S. Walsh III

Dr. Walsh (Georgia '74), 80, Kingsland, Georgia, died June 22, 2024. He practiced small animal medicine at Animal Medical Clinic in St. Marys, Georgia, prior to retirement. Dr. Walsh was a founding member of the Humane Society of Camden County. His wife, Louisa; a daughter and a son; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild survive him. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Camden County, 950 S. Grove Blvd., Kingsland, GA 31548.
