On October 21, 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that would prohibit or restrict the transfer of sensitive U.S. data to countries of national security concern. The proposed regulations would establish an extensive regulatory framework under which companies across a range of sectors would be affected. The Notice further details and clarifies the powers granted to the Department under Executive Order 14117, as previewed by an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking issued alongside the Order in February 2024.
