Board of Supervisors Confirms Mike Chen to the Board of Directors for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency

San Francisco, CA - Today the Board of Supervisors unanimously confirmed Mayor Breed's appointment of Mike Chen to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Board of Directors, replacing Lydia So who recently was appointed to the Planning Commission.

Chen is an experienced Data Engineer with a demonstrated history of working in the internet industry and skilled in marketing and product analytics. He joined the SFMTA Citizens' Advisory Council in January 2020 and served as its Chair from July 2021 through July 2023.

A frequent rider of Muni lines 1, 38 and 49, Chen also uses both his own e-bike and bikeshare to get around the City. An advocate for housing, transportation, and urbanist causes, he has been an organizer in his neighborhood and a volunteer lead for YIMBY Action, a housing advocacy organization.

"Mike is committed to a vision of a safe, efficient, and sustainable transit that works for all and creates a stronger, more vibrant San Francisco," said Mayor London Breed. "I'm confident he will be a valuable addition to the SFMTA Board of Directors, and I'm grateful for the support from the Board members who voted to confirm him."

"I am grateful for the trust that the Mayor and Board of Supervisors have placed in me," said Mike Chen. "I am honored to serve San Francisco, to tackle hard problems, and to improve transportation for everyone."

Chen currently works as a Data Engineer at Coda, a software company, where he organizes information to help people make better decisions using data, tables, and dashboards. Prior to that, he worked at Meta for nearly eight years, primarily as a data engineer. He has both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Mike Chen lives in the Lower Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco. He regularly enjoys Clay Slow Street.
