Wyden, Merkley: Molalla Earns $35 Million for Improved Wastewater Treatment

Washington D.C.-U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley today announced that the city of Molalla has secured a $33.25 million loan and a $2 million grant to update its wastewater treatment facility.

"Federal investment in modern infrastructure is a must for Oregonians counting on public health and for communities statewide needing to operate efficiently," Wyden said. "These federal funds achieve both objectives for residents and small businesses in Molalla, and I'll keep battling for similar opportunities throughout our state."

"As I hold town halls in every corner of Oregon, I often hear deep concerns about aging water infrastructure, especially in rural communities," Merkley said. "These federal funds will ensure that the city of Molalla can build the wastewater treatment facility they need to protect the health of all community members. I'll continue to do all I can to ensure every community in Oregon and across the nation has reliable water sanitation by addressing outdated water infrastructure." 

The federal investment from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will include construction to improve wastewater treatment, and upgrades of the city's wastewater collection system. The federal funds are through the Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants program and the Solid Waste Management Grants program.

"Our growing community began rebuilding our city's 1950s-era wastewater treatment plant last month, and the improvements are expected to serve Molalla residentsnd businesses for the next 20 years," said Molalla City Manager Dan Huff. "These federal resources will go entirely to the treatment plant's reconstruction, and we very much appreciate the support of Senators Wyden and Merkley for this key investment in Mollala's growing future."
