Congressman Scott Perry's EQUIP Act Passes House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee

Washington, D.C. - Today, the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee passed Congressman Scott Perry's (PA-10) Ensuring Quality Investments in Preparedness Act of 2024, or the EQUIP Act of 2024 - next awaiting consideration on the House floor. "As the costs of responding to and recovering from disasters continue to rise in our country, it's imperative that we prepare as best we can for when disasters do strike,"said Chairman Sam Graves."I commend Chairman Perry for his work on this bill, for working to incentivize states to better prepare for disasters as recommended by former FEMA administrators, and for promoting reforms of our federal disaster programs."

Introduced in May, the EQUIP Act of 2024 amends the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act by requiring each State to pay three times its population or the amount of federal financial assistance to ensure that the American Taxpayer is not entirely on the hook for disaster relief.

"All levels of government must have skin in the game if we're going to rein in out-of-control spending and put America on a path to fiscal sustainability," said Congressman Perry. "The EQUIP Act will ensure that the federal government is a responsible steward of Taxpayer dollars while delivering critical disaster relief."

The EQUIP Act of 2024 also ensures that federally funded projects produce real, tangible results without the waste that far too often follows government spending.
