November 5, 2024 - The Ann Arbor City Clerk's Office notes that voting closed at 8 p.m. - both at polling places and for absentee ballot drop boxes - and there were no lines after closing time. Precincts are reporting 2024 General Election results.
The city clerk's office issued over 1600 ballots on Election Day to newly registered voters, both at Larcom City Hall and at the University of Michigan satellite registration offices, with almost no wait times. City Clerk Jacqueline Beaudry credited the success of the same-day registration on campus to the newly created Election Day Vote Centers, co-located with the satellite clerk offices, that allow new voters to tabulate their votes in person after registration.
A total of 20,787 ballots were cast in Ann Arbor during early voting (EV), which closed Nov. 3. EV ballot tabulation is underway as of 8 p.m.
The city clerk's office issued 35,323 absentee ballots, with over 95% returned including the approximately 2,700 absentee ballots that were returned today, Nov. 5, by the 8 p.m. deadline. City staff began early tabulation of absentee ballots on Sunday, Nov. 3, and resumed tabulation of ballots throughout the day Nov. 5. Once all ballots received by the 8 p.m. deadline are checked in, they will go to the absent voter counting board (AVCB) for final tabulation. Nearly 75% of absentee ballots already at the AVCB have been scanned and counted.
"Running an election of this historic importance and ensuring all citizens have access to make their vote count has required many months of meticulous planning and preparation," said Ann Arbor Mayor Christopher Taylor. "And as the polls close tonight across our city and our country, I commend the dedication of City Clerk Jacqueline Beaudry and her dedicated team, knowing their careful, transparent and fastidious work is far from over this evening and into tomorrow. I thank this team for all they do, and I encourage our community members to join me in having patience and confidence as we await election results."
