Seton Hall University Launches IEEE Student Branch

Seton Hall University is proud to announce the establishment of a new IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) student organization, offering students across all engineering and computing disciplines an opportunity to collaborate, innovate, and connect with industry leaders. Commonly referred to as "I-Triple E," IEEE is a globally recognized professional organization that serves professionals in electronics, engineering, and computer sciences, with a strong focus on nurturing academic and professional growth.

The new student club is led by a cohort of passionate data and computer science students, eager to create a space for innovation and experiential learning. They hope to participate in international conferences and competitions, including global coding challenges, and contribute to cutting-edge developments in AI and data science through real-world applications. The branch's leadership team, composed of student officers, will oversee the club's initiatives and operations. Dr. Manfred Minimair, Director of Computer Science, will serve as the branch counselor and advisor. Alongside Dr. Minimair, Dr. Hsin-Yi Lin and Dr. Shajina Anand, faculty from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, will also play advisory roles. However, Dr. Minimair emphasizes that while faculty advisors are there to support, this is a student-driven organization. "We want to empower students to take the lead, create, and innovate," said Dr. Minimair.

As an integral part of the IEEE network, the student branch will open doors for Seton Hall students to connect with the global engineering and technology community. By engaging with alumni and industry professionals, members will have the opportunity to explore job opportunities, gain practical experience, and participate in projects that could shape the future of engineering and computing. In addition to student-driven initiatives, the branch plans to organize academic conferences, such as one focused on how AI can revolutionize game development. They also aim to host industry speakers and organize company visits to give students a closer look at the cutting-edge work being done in engineering fields.

The new IEEE student branch at Seton Hall University welcomes current students from all engineering and computer science programs, including Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Math, and more. Alumni working in relevant industries are also encouraged to participate, further strengthening the bridge between academic learning and real-world industry experience.

Seton Hall offers a robust B.S. and Minors in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Data Analytics, which can add a versatile, in-demand skillset to any other A&S major. Seton Hall also offers dynamic M.S. in Applied Physics and Engineering and Data Science, which empowers graduates with data analytics and data engineering skills, including machine learning, to manage big data and decision-making in various fields, from business to STEM to government.
