On September 24th, the D.C. Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) joined affordable housing partners to break ground on Emblem, a 115-unit fully affordable housing development in Ward 6 in the NOMA and Union Market neighborhood.
Emblem marks The NRP Group's first affordable development in the District of Columbia, where this project was developed with the Marshall Heights Community Development Organization (MHCDO) and financed in part by key District of Columbia agencies: the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), the DC Housing Authority (DCHA), and the DC Green Bank.
DHCD financed this new construction project with $2.3 million in low-income housing tax credits (LIHTC), and $33 million in funding from the Housing Production Trust Fund (HPTF). The Emblem is a 13-story high-rise building with 11 efficiency, 50 one-bedroom, 30 two-bedroom, and 24 three-bedroom apartments reserved for residents earning 30 and 50 percent MFI or less. 23 units will serve as permanent supportive housing (PSH), and these units are committed to perpetual affordability.
Emblem's outstanding location has immediate access to walkable amenities, jobs, educational opportunities, and public transit. In addition to their well-appointed apartment homes, residents enjoy amenities including a fitness center, a toddler play area, a learning center for residents, a clubhouse, onsite and management offices, lounge, study room, and bicycle parking both indoors and outdoors.
