ABA Joins Member Banks in Donating to Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts

WASHINGTON -

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, which has caused billions of dollars in damage and killed more than 200 people, the American Bankers Association today announced it will donate $50,000 to each of the relief funds established by the North Carolina Bankers Association and the Tennessee Bankers Association to respond to the devastation in those states. ABA is encouraging bankers across the country to consider contributing to these funds and other relief efforts in the states impacted by Helene.

The ABA donations follow contributions and other actions from banks nationwide to aid recovery efforts after the hurricane caused catastrophic damage as it swept through six states in the Southeast.

"The devastation and loss of life caused by Hurricane Helene is unimaginable, and we know members of our banking family have been affected," said Rob Nichols, ABA president and CEO. "The road to recovery will be long, but banks of all sizes have once again stepped up to help bring relief to these heartbroken communities. We hope others throughout the industry will join us in contributing to these critical relief efforts."

ABA will donate $50,000 to the North Carolina Bankers Association's Hurricane Helene Relief Fund through the NCBA Foundation, where funds will be directed to bank employees in Western N.C. which suffered the most significant property damage and loss of life. The association will contribute an additional $50,000 to the Tennessee Bankers Association's Disaster Relief Fund, administered by the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, to help communities in East Tennessee devastated by flooding from Hurricane Helene. TBA has also contributed $10,000 to its Disaster Relief Fund.

While North Carolina and Tennessee suffered the worst of the storm, considerable damage and loss of life occurred in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia. ABA also encourages bankers to support relief efforts underway in those states. The association has launched a new web page highlighting how bankers can help, as well as examples of how individual institutions are helping communities recover from the storm.
