YVSF Recovered a Firearm After a Traffic Stop in Roslindale

At about 1:30 PM, on Thursday, July 4, 2024, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Adrian Fernandes, 24, of Roslindale, on firearm charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Washington Street when they observed a motor vehicle operating at a high rate of speed. Officers also observed the vehicle was missing its front license plate, and had it displayed inside on the front dash.

At this time, officers activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle stopped in the area of 90 Brookway Terrace and the sole occupant turned off the car and attempted to exit.

Officers approached the operator and advised him of the reason for the traffic stop. Officers requested his license and registration and observed his hands to be visibly shaking so much that he dropped his keys. The operator attempted to close the door on officers and start the engine of his vehicle.

Officers requested the operator to exit the vehicle to conduct a pat frisk. As officers attempted to pat frisk the operator, he began to resist and a struggle ensued. The operator tried to throw his car keys to an individual who was recording the traffic stop, and requested the individual close his door. The suspect was able to break free from officers and fled the scene.

Officers conducted a pat frisk of the motor vehicle and recovered a firearm equipped with a machine gun selector switch making the firearm fully automatic. The firearm was later determined to be a Glock 27 with eight rounds in the magazine.

Officers broadcasted a description of the suspect, and responding officers began to canvass the area. Officers located the suspect on the roof of 105 Brookway Road, and placed him into handcuffs.

Fernandes was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Unlawful Possession of a Sawed-Off Machine Gun, and Resisting Arrest. He is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court.
