Growing customer demand for renewable energy drives Ameren Missouri program expansion

New Florence, Mo. (Oct. 24, 2024) - Ameren Missouri is moving forward with building a third solar facility to meet growing demand from customers looking to receive up to 100% of their energy from a renewable resource. This latest site, which was just approved by the Missouri Public Service Commission, is part of Ameren Missouri's Community Solar program. The new energy center will be located alongside the existing Montgomery Community Solar Center in New Florence, an hour west of St. Louis.

More than 4,700 Ameren Missouri residential and small business customers have signed up to be part of the Community Solar Program, with up to 100% of their energy usage to be sourced from one of the company's dedicated Community Solar facilities.

"Signing up for the Community Solar Program is a great way for David Pope Insurance to help improve our environment without having to invest in solar panels," said David Pope of Union, Mo. "We are excited to help highlight this easy means of reducing CO2 emissions for our clients and supporting clean, renewable energy in our community."

Construction of the New Florence Community Solar Center is anticipated to begin as early as spring of next year, with the goal of serving customers in 2026. It will be the third solar energy center Ameren Missouri has built since the inception of Community Solar programming. The first installation at St. Louis Lambert International Airport went into service in 2019. The Montgomery facility began serving customers in 2022.

"The Community Solar program is an easy way for customers to support renewables and accelerate solar energy development, all without having to install their own solar panels," said Greg Lovett, program manager for Community Solar at Ameren Missouri. "Customer interest in Community Solar also helps us gain regulatory approval for the development of new facilities that will enable net-zero carbon emissions by 2045."

Customers can take part in the program by joining the waitlist for this and future facilities. To enroll in Community Solar, customers can log in to their Ameren Missouri account or call 800.552.7583.
