Cumberland Island National Seashore will reopen October 6, 2024 following Hurricane Helene

Saint Marys, GA - Cumberland Island National Seashore will reopen to day-use visitors Sunday, October 6, 2024, following Hurricane Helene. Park staff assessed the park's facilities and resources and found extensive damage and safety concerns, along with utilities outage across the park which resulted in a multi-day closure. Due to the power outage, the water distribution system was affected. The drinking water was analyzed and determined to be safe. The park staff along with the southeast regional incident management team surveyed the docks and structures and made necessary repairs making them safe.

Cumberland Island National Seashore will resume limited operations to the south end of the island, on Sunday, October 6, 2024. Due to debris removal and cleanup from the storm that is still ongoing, the park will remain closed from Stafford Beach and all points north. Camping remains closed at this time and the ferries will be running on the fall schedule.
