Luján: Farm Bill Would Support New Mexico Farmers and Agriculture Industry

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee, issued the following statement on the introduction of The Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act. This legislation includes $39 billion in new funding to support farmers, ensure food security for families, and strengthen rural communities.

"Today, Chair Stabenow introduced a strong Farm Bill that would support New Mexico's farmers, fight hunger, and strengthen rural communities. This legislation reflects the voices of people I've met across New Mexico-farmers, ranchers, nutrition advocates, and local leaders-whose input helped shape solutions that address their needs.

"This bill prioritizes New Mexico's agriculture industry while ensuring families have access to healthy food. It includes critical provisions to support historically underserved producers, protect SNAP, improve programs for Western producers, and enhance federal support for acequia management. These measures are key to advancing the growth and success of New Mexico's growing agriculture industry.

"For too long, local farmers and producers have been left out of conversations that directly affect them. I'm proud to have amplified their voices in crafting a Farm Bill that truly supports our agricultural community. I look forward to working with my colleagues to move this legislation forward."
