Stevenson’s Biomedical Engineering Program Receives ABET Accreditation

Stevenson University's Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering has been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), the quality assurance organization focused on college and university programs in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines.

ABET accreditation assures that academic programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter technical fields that are leading the way in innovation and emerging technologies and anticipating the welfare and safety needs of the public.

"This accreditation is a testament to the quality of our Biomedical Engineering program at Stevenson," said Neil Rothman, Ph.D., Biomedical Engineering Program Advisor. "Our program provides students with knowledge and skills they need to prepare for their careers and succeed as biomedical engineers."

Sought worldwide, ABET's voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision and safety are of the utmost importance.

Developed by technical professionals from ABET's member societies, ABET criteria focus on what students experience and learn. ABET accreditation reviews look at program curricula, faculty, facilities, and institutional support and are conducted by teams of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia, and government, with expertise in the ABET disciplines.

ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization with ISO 9001:2015 certification. It currently accredits 4,674 programs at 920 colleges and universities in 42 countries and areas as of Oct. 1, 2023. In and out of the classroom, Stevenson provides students with exceptional experiences and connections to careers in a close-knit community that supports their academic, social, and post-college professional success. Stevenson began offering its Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering in 2019. Since then, the program has continually grown, adding the Kahlert Foundation Makerspace and its dedicated Biomedical Engineering Lab in 2024.
