Roseland Creek Park Master Plan Approved

On September 24, 2024, the City Council took a significant step forward by approving the Roseland Creek Community Park Master Plan and the associated Final Environmental Impact Report. This pivotal milestone represents 15 years of dedication and collaboration within the community, culminating in a comprehensive plan to enhance park development.

Situated on approximately 20 acres between Burbank and McMinn Avenues, directly across from Roseland Creek Elementary School, the Master Plan emphasizes the preservation and restoration of the park's natural landscapes. In fact, over 80% of the park will remain dedicated

to these efforts. The remaining area will feature a variety of community-focused amenities, including trails, a nature center, two pedestrian bridges over Roseland Creek, a playground, picnic areas, a small sports court, and an outdoor classroom or community garden.

The next steps include finalizing the Conservation Easement and Recreation Covenant with the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District. This process is essential to comply with grants received through the District's Matching Grant Program, which partially funded the acquisition of the park parcels.

Additionally, city staff will work on plans to construct a trail that will extend from McMinn Avenue through the park to Burbank Avenue. This trail construction is a key requirement of the District's grant program, which seeks to create a safer route for students traveling to Roseland Creek Elementary School. A new signalized pedestrian crosswalk will be installed across Burbank Avenue to facilitate this connection.

As funding becomes available, the remaining amenities outlined in the Master Plan will be implemented, further enriching the community's outdoor experience. Roseland Creek Community Park is poised to become a vital hub for recreation, education, and community engagement for years to come.
