USAID Travels to New York to Attend the UN General Assembly

Senior USAID officials, including Administrator Samantha Power, Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman, and Acting Deputy Administrator Michele Sumilas, will travel to New York, New York, to attend the 79th annual UN General Assembly (UNGA) High Level Week. The officials will speak to the U.S. government's priorities and share how USAID is leading efforts to advance global health priorities such as pushing for a lead-free future; responding to an increasing number of crises and level of humanitarian need; and strengthening democracy globally.

Monday, September 23
Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman will participate in a panel discussion on Artificial Intelligence and sustainable development, hosted by OpenAI and the Center for Global Development. The event will take place at 10:15 a.m. EST.

Administrator Samantha Power and UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell will launch a new partnership dedicated to tackling lead exposure in low- and middle-income countries, which affects one in two children and is responsible for more deaths than HIV and malaria combined. Deputy Administrator Coleman will announce new commitments to the Women in the Sustainable Economy initiative alongside Secretary Hillary Clinton, White House Gender Policy Council Director Jen Klein, and key corporate partners at the Clinton Global Initiative's 2024 meeting. Tuesday, September 24
Deputy Administrator Coleman will deliver remarks at the American Leaders for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) roundtable, co-hosted by the UN Foundation and the Center for Sustainable Development at the Brookings Institution. Administrator Power will participate in the Clinton Global Initiative's 2024 meeting to continue to raise awareness for the new partnership dedicated to tacking lead exposure. The event will take place at 9:00 a.m. EST and will be live streamed here(link is external).

Wednesday, September 25
Administrator Power, in partnership with the Ford Foundation, will host the third UNGA "Democracy Delivers" gathering. The event will demonstrate the collective power of a multi-stakeholder community of action committed to democratic renewal and resilience around the world.
