FIJIAN DIASPORA WELCOME PRESIDENT KATONIVERE...
The President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Williame Katonivere, and his delegation were accorded a traditional welcome ceremony by the Fijian community in Niue following the 50th anniversary celebrations of Niue's constitution earlier this week.
Upon meeting the diaspora, President Katonivere commended the community members for their efforts and stated that they play a major role in keeping the economy of Niue afloat by contributing towards its economy.
The President also acknowledged the shared values and strong ties between the two countries and emphasised on the continuing relationship between the two nations.
He highlighted that the presence of Fijians in Niue displays regional cooperation, which can be used to address unique challenges faced by the island nations.
Peni Rarasea, President of the Fijian community in Niue, said that they were delighted to host the Fijian delegation and meet with His Excellency.
"It's an honour to host the president of Fiji. Some Fijians have been living here for more than 20 to 30 years, and it's a privilege to host the President," he said.
President Katonivere's visit to Niue also reaffirms Fiji's dedication to strengthening relationships with its Pacific neighbours.
