Putting our hands where our heart is in our local communities

"I'm a firm believer in putting your hands where your heart is - taking action with causes you truly care about." Rachel Jones, Vice President, Public Affairs and Sustainability, is passionate about environmental stewardship, as we all are here at AdvanSix.

Our team in Hopewell, VA, recently helped clean up part of the Lower Appomattox River with FOLAR - Friends of the Lower Appomattox River. Rachel reflects on the day, explaining how they turned a potential chore into a fun and educational experience: "My driving force has always been to leave the world better than we find it, and that includes our rivers… I brought along two of my nieces and, what could have felt like a boring chore, ended up being a great day of bonding filled with laughter and smiles. We turned picking up trash into a fun game - competing to find the weirdest or grossest thing thrown where it shouldn't be!"

The impact of this day extended beyond the riverbank. Rachel's nieces gained a new-found appreciation for environmental conservation, demonstrating the power of hands-on experiences to inspire future generations. "What made this day special wasn't just the impact we made, but the thoughts and conversations it sparked afterward. A few days later, one of my nieces dropped a candy wrapper and suddenly, that small action had a whole new meaning for her."

We are proud of our employees' dedication to environmental stewardship and community involvement. Participating in local initiatives like this river cleanup reinforces our commitment to creating a more sustainable future. Rachel adds: "We may have cleaned up a bit of the river that day, but the ripple effect goes far beyond."
