Stewart Beach pavilion update, demo underway

Demolition of the Stewart Beach Pavilion started during the week of Thanksgiving and is expected to be completed after the new year.

With the demolition nearly complete, City Council has directed City staff to finalize a master plan and bring forward recommendations related to the procurement of a master developer for Stewart Beach Park. The master plan process will be led by the City with input from the stakeholders including the Park Board and the public.

The City will formalize the master plan and then seek to procure a developer to implement the master plan for Stewart Beach. The master plan will utilize the best parts of prior plans and incorporate news ideas that come from stakeholder input.

For the time being, beach patrol is housed in trailers on Stewart Beach. Part of the master planning process will identify a proper location(s) for beach patrol operational and administrative facilities.

The Galveston City Council will have a joint meeting with the Galveston Park Board of Trustees in January, which will cover this topic in more detail.
