Wyden Announces Stacy Sanders as Finance Committee Health Chief

Washington, D.C. - Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today announced Stacy Sanders as the Chief Health Advisor on the Senate Finance Committee majority staff. She will officially join the committee in mid-October.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Stacy to the Finance Committee," Wyden said. "Stacy has a proven track record fighting for better health care for working families, seniors and Americans with disabilities. Stacy's expertise will be critical as the Finance Committee works to pass bipartisan legislation on a range of health care issues, from taking on health care middlemen to improving mental health care. The Finance Committee will greatly benefit from Stacy's dedication to improving health care for all Americans as the committee prepares to take on some of the most pressing challenges facing our country in the months and years ahead."

"I am honored to join the talented team on the Finance Committee under Chairman Wyden's leadership," Ms. Sanders said. "I look forward to ensuring every American family can afford the health care they need, shedding light on the actions of concentrated middlemen, promoting Americans' access to behavioral health and long-term care, and more."

Since November 2022, Ms. Sanders has served as Counselor to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, overseeing the Department's implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act, long-term care initiatives, policies to promote health care competition, and other Medicare work. In January 2023, Ms. Sanders was named the Department's first Chief Competition Officer. Prior to joining the Biden-Harris Administration, Ms. Sanders served as Staff Director of the Senate Special Committee on Aging for U.S. Senator Bob Casey, Jr. where she oversaw initiatives to build health and economic security for older Americans and people with disabilities. During her tenure as Staff Director and Deputy Staff Director, Ms. Sanders led the Committee's agenda to invest in home and community-based services, enhance nursing home quality, lower prescription drug costs, and simplify Medicare enrollment. Before coming to the Senate, Ms. Sanders served as Federal Policy Director of the Medicare Rights Center where she led advocacy campaigns to enhance access to quality, affordable health care. She has a Masters of Social Work from the University of Michigan.
