Congresswoman Nancy Mace Alongside Oversight Committee Demand Transparency On Potential Fraud In Online Campaign Fundraising

(Washington, D.C., September 20, 2024)- Congresswoman Nancy Mace, alongside the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, has sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen seeking information regarding suspicious activities involving the online fundraising platform, ActBlue. Recent investigations indicate ActBlue may have been used to facilitate fraudulent campaign contributions, raising serious concerns about the integrity of campaign finance laws and potential foreign interference.

"Ensuring transparency and accountability in our campaign finance system is vital," said Congresswoman Mace."GOP Oversight will thoroughly examine these reports to determine if fraud has occurred and if additional measures are needed to protect our elections. It's unacceptable for platforms like ActBlue to potentially undermine our campaign finance laws."

Key issues being investigated by GOP Oversight include:

  • Lack of Identity Verification:ActBlue initially did not require Card Verification Value (CVV) codes for transactions, leading to concerns about inadequate protection against identity theft and fraud.
  • Fraudulent Contributions:Reports suggest contributions were made fraudulently via ActBlue without the donors' knowledge or consent.
  • Excessive Donations from Single Donors:Instances of single donors making tens of thousands of separate contributions totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars have been reported, potentially circumventing campaign finance limits.
  • Investigations by State Officials:Various state officials are investigating the platform for suspicious contribution activities, raising concerns about its operational integrity.
  • Potential Foreign Influence:Foreign nationals are using ActBlue to donate to U.S. campaigns despite being restricted by campaign laws.
  • General Fraud and Evasion Issues:Potential problems include money laundering, counterfeit credit/debit card fraud, false statements, wire transfer fraud, and identity theft related to transactions on the platform.
