MI Commission of Ag and Rural Development Approve 2025 GAAMPs

LANSING, Mich. Today, during their regularly scheduled meeting, the Michigan Commission of Agriculture and Rural Development approved the proposed drafts of the 2025 Generally Accepted Agricultural and Management Practices (GAAMPs). The GAAMPs are reviewed each year by committees comprised of various experts and revised or updated as necessary.

"The GAAMPs are important tools for producers and the agricultural community, setting forth farm management parameters using the best-available science," said Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) Director Tim Boring. "The clear expectations of responsible farm management set forth in the GAAMPs are critical to ensure environmental protections, agricultural stewardship, and community relations."

The proposed changes to the 2025 GAAMPs included edits to the Care for Farm Animals GAAMPs language around apiaries; inserting an appendix and updated definitions to the Farm Market GAAMPs; and restructuring of the Site Selection and Odor Control for New and Expanding Livestock Facilities GAAMPs for clarity.

All proposed GAAMPs changes were approved. The GAAMPs regarding Cranberry Production; Irrigation Water Use; Manure Management and Utilization; Nutrient Utilization; and Pesticide Utilization and Pest Control, had no proposed changes for 2025.
