Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Hosts Annual Ray Murphy Men’s Health Night

NEWARK, NJ (October 30, 2024) - Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, hosted its largest Annual Ray Murphy Men's Health Night to date on October 28, 2024, at the Cedar Hill Country Club drawing a record attendance of over 350 men from Newark and the greater Newark area.

"We are thrilled to see the continued success of our annual Ray Murphy Men's Health Night. Every year, we provide attendees with critical health screenings and meaningful insights from our dedicated team of clinicians," said Darrell K. Terry, Sr., MHA, MPH, FACHE, FHELA, President and Chief Executive Officer of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey. "This event embodies our commitment to improving health outcomes by raising awareness and increasing access to preventative health care."

Attendees participated in a comprehensive range of health activities, including receiving their annual influenza immunization (flu shot), prostate (PSA) testing, blood pressure and glucose screenings. They also received information on lung and colon cancer screening.

Reverend Edward A. Allen Sr., Pastor of Philemon Missionary Baptist Church and Sampson Davis, MD, award-winning board-certified emergency medicine physician, best-selling author and famed Three Doctors Foundation member Dr. Sampson Davis offer a captivating fireside chat at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey's Annual Ray Murphy Men's Health Night.

The highlight of the evening was the expert panel discussion moderated by 1986 NY Giants Captain and Super Bowl XXI Champion George Martin. The discussion included a captivating fireside chat between award-winning board-certified emergency medicine physician, best-selling author and famed Three Doctors Foundation member Dr. Sampson Davis and Reverend Edward A. Allen Sr., Pastor of Philemon Missionary Baptist Church, who shared how last year's event saved his life. Their motivational remarks sparked an engaging discussion with the panel of experts:

  • Jose Bustillo, DO: Board-certified in internal medicine, shared insights on managing chronic illnesses like diabetes, obesity, and high cholesterol.
  • Russ Bergman, DMD: Vice Chair and Program Director of Newark Beth Israel's Dental Residency Program, emphasized the connection between dental and overall health.
  • Domenico Savatta, MD: Urologist specializing in robotic surgery for enlarged prostate, prostate cancer, and urologic cancers.
  • Smruti Mohanty, MD, MS: Director of the Gastroenterology Program, addressed digestive health issues, from acid reflux to colon cancer.
  • Eric Chan, MD, Urologist with Essex Hudson Urology Group, discussed a holistic approach to urology.
  • Richard Tuvako, DNP: Representing Newark Beth Israel's Behavioral Health Department, spoke on emotional wellness.
  • Matthew Montgomery, DO, MBA, MPH: Cardiologist with the Advanced Heart Failure Treatment and Transplant team, one of the top 20 programs in the nation discussed the importance of caring for your heart health.
