Issues on Armenia's cooperation with International Criminal Court and on international criminal justice discussed

On October 24, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs Vladimir Vardanyan met with the former judge of the International Criminal Court (ICC), the former President of the Assembly of the ICC States Parties (ASP) Silvia Fernández.

The Deputy Chair of the Committee Arusyak Julhakyan and the member of the Committee Alkhas Ghazaryan attended the meeting.

The sides discussed the main directions of Armenia's cooperation with the International Criminal Court.

Vladimir Vardanyan presented the steps taken by our country regarding the development and adoption of implementing legislation after the ratification of the ICC Statute.

Issues regarding the importance of the ICC role, taking into consideration the ongoing developments in the world. The role of the states in the establishment of the ICC was highlighted, as many decisions are also inter-connected with the decisions of the Assembly and the will of the member states.

The parties touched upon the challenges regarding the international criminal justice and expressed hope that as a result of those challenges, the international criminal justice will become more effective on a global scale and will be preventive in fight against the crimes committed against international law.
