  • Hyundai Motor Group showcases 'X-ble MEX' wearable rehabilitation robot in assisting injured soldiers' recovery with release of its '10M March' campaign video
  • 'X-ble MEX', developed by the Group's Robotics LAB, aids muscle recovery, joint movement and complex motion beyond basic walking assistance
  • Video narration provided by Paralympic medalist Ji-hoon Lee; also features thousands of supportive messages made on the Group's social media channels

SEOUL, October 4, 2024 - Hyundai Motor Group (the Group) has showcased the use of its 'X-ble Medical Exoskeleton (X-ble MEX)' walking rehabilitation robot in aiding the recovery of injured soldiers with the release of a new campaign video titled '10M March'. The video can be viewed on the Group's official YouTube channel here.

The video, created in collaboration with the Korean Armed Forces Medical Command, documents the use of 'X-ble MEX' at the Armed Forces Capital Hospital and delivers thousands of heart-warming messages of support from the public to the injured soldiers. The '10M March' campaign draws inspiration from the daily rehabilitation routine of injured soldiers, likening the hospital corridor to a long march.

'10M March' portrays injured soldiers using 'X-ble MEX' to overcome the challenges of rehabilitation. The wearable exoskeleton reduces the physical burden on medical staff and is designed to make the rehabilitation process safer and more manageable.

Donated by the Group to the Armed Forces Capital Hospital last August, 'X-ble MEX' is an advanced medical rehabilitation robot developed by the Group's Robotics LAB. The name X-ble MEX is combination of the Group's wearable robot brand 'X-ble' and Medical Exoskeleton. The Group's wearable robot brand X-ble is derived from the term 'X', signalling the infinite potential of robotics technology, and the word 'able', meaning that anything can be realized.

Developed for the purpose of lower muscle reconstruction, the robot aids walking rehabilitation and supports complex training movements beyond simple walking assistance.

Through a real-time actuator control system, the robot helps patients move independently by assisting them with the strength needed to maintain balance for walking. It also supports various actions such as sitting, standing, walking, rotating and climbing stairs, which greatly enhances treatment efficiency and can motivate patients on their rehabilitation journey.

'X-ble MEX' also reduces the burden on medical staff by assisting patient movement. The robot can balance and reduce injury risk, as it lowers the chance of the patient falling backwards.

The video's narration is provided by Ji-hoon Lee, a national figure who won a bronze medal in ice hockey at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Paralympics following rehabilitation from an injury during his military service. The video's supportive messages are based on over one thousand comments made on the Group's SNS channels.

Under the social responsibility message of 'The Right Move for the Right Future', the Group is conducting various social contribution activities in the key areas of mobility, safety and environment for future generations.

Last August, the Group also donated its second-generation 'X-ble MEX' to the Armed Forces Capital Hospital's rehabilitation treatment department. The Group intends to continue using advanced mobility technology in various support activities, aiming to enable the mobility disadvantaged to move freely in the future.
