We want to hear your thoughts on polling districts, polling places and polling stations across Wyre.
Each local authority is required to carry out a review of polling districts, polling places and polling stations for UK parliamentary constituencies at least once every five years. The review is now due in Wyre.
There are some legal requirements that affect how polling districts are made up and where voting can take place - for example each parish should be a separate polling district and each polling district should ideally have its own polling station, which residents can easily recognise and travel to. However, councils are also required to take resident views into account and where possible, adapt their arrangements accordingly within the basic framework to make it easier for people to exercise their right to vote.
The council are keen to hear about the location of polling stations - whether these are in the right place and how convenient these are to access, along with suggestions for other locations that could be used. Comments from anyone with a disability are particularly welcomed.
Along with asking for views from local residents, we are also consulting with Lancaster City Council and Fylde Council on relevant areas that fall under the 'Lancaster and Wyre' and 'Fylde' parliamentary constituencies. Direct consultation will also take place with MPs, County, Borough, Town and Parish Councillors, Town and Parish Councils, the Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner and Disability Groups.
To learn more, see a list of existing sites and take part in the consultation online, please visit our elections pages here. You can also find out more by calling 01253 887257 or view the consultation documents at the Civic Centre in Poulton every weekday between 10am and 4pm.
Comments can also be sent in by post to Electoral Services, Civic Centre, Breck Road, Poulton-le-Fylde FY6 7PU or by email to [email protected]
The consultation closes on Friday 29 November 2024, 5pm.
The results of the consultation will be published on the elections section of the council website towards the end of January 2025 and any changes will come into force immediately, ready for the County Council elections in May 2025, or any by-elections that may occur beforehand
