SCSU, community experts to discuss relationship between technology and financial systems

St. Cloud State University will host five presentations regarding "The Role of Technology in Building Public Trust in Financial Systems" on Oct. 21, beginning at 9 a.m. in the SCSU Innovation Hub (Miller Center 102).

Topics discussed will include cryptocurrency, information assurance, marketing, digital assets and artificial intelligence (AI). The event is being held in partnership with the SCSU Center for Policy Research and Community Engagement.

"Finance is built on trust, since it exchanges something today for something in the future," said King Banaian, Professor of Economics and Director of the Center for Policy Research and Community Engagement. "In earlier times trust was represented by a prestigious person or an impressive building. In this seminar we look at how technology allows people without prestige or lots of capital to build trust mechanisms to participate in the financial system."

The SCSU Innovation Hub has been redesigned as a space for discovery and collaboration. It has been host to the weekly interdisciplinary AI is for Everyday workshop series this semester, where SCSU faculty, staff and students can explore the future of AI integration into various higher education practices.

Here is Monday's schedule of speakers:

  • 9 a.m. - King Banaian, Professor of Economics (Crytpocurrency)
  • 9:30 a.m. - Lindsey Vigesaa, Professor of Criminal Justice (AI)
  • 10 a.m. - Rajesh Gulati, Professor of Marketing (Marketing)
  • 10:30 a.m. - Erich Rice, Fixed Term Instructor of Information Systems (Information Assurance)
