WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart (FL-26), a senior member of the House Committee on Appropriations, issued the following statement after the passage of the Senate Amendment to H.R. 5009, the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025 (NDAA):
"The Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025 prioritizes the safety and security of the American people by ensuring that our brave servicemen and women have the resources and support necessary to defend our country and confront the wide-ranging geopolitical challenges of our time, both at home and abroad.
"The men and women who serve our U.S. military to defend our freedom and democracy every day deserve nothing less than the best. This legislation focuses on enhancing our servicemembers' quality of life by increasing compensation for junior enlisted personnel, improving housing conditions, ensuring access to medical care and childcare, supporting military spouses, building new schools for servicemembers' children, and providing enhanced career transition assistance, among other critical initiatives.
"Furthermore, the FY25 NDAA addresses the significant threats posed by anti-American adversaries, such as Communist China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea, as well as the consequences of the Biden-Harris Administration's disastrous open-border policies. This legislation bolsters national security by supporting the deployment of the National Guard to the southern border to combat the influx of illegal immigration and drug trafficking, deterring Communist China's aggressive actions, and preventing espionage by the Chinese Communist Party in our research institutions, supply chains, and armed forces.
"Our servicemembers are the pillar of our military and national security. I remain committed to ensuring that these brave men and women are fully prepared and equipped to safeguard our country against all threats to national security."
