IUIU Celebrates 33rd Graduation with Record Number of Graduates and Focus on Girl Child Education

The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) concluded its 33rd Graduation Ceremony on Saturday 14th December 2024 at the main campus in Mbale. The momentous occasion was marked by a record number of graduates and a strong emphasis on empowering female students. With 2691 students receiving degrees and diplomas, the ceremony highlighted IUIU's commitment to academic excellence, diversity, and innovation.

Girl Child Education Takes Center Stage

A remarkable statistic from the graduation list revealed that female graduates outnumbered their male counterparts, representing 56% of the graduating class. This achievement underscores IUIU's dedication to fostering girl child education and providing equal opportunities for all students. Furthermore, female students excelled academically, comprising 52% of the 320 graduates who achieved First Class degrees.

Inaugural PhDs in Education

The 33rd Graduation Ceremony also marked a significant milestone with the graduation of the university's first-ever Ph.D. in education. Gyagenda Abdulswamad and Kamonges Wahab Asad, who completed their Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD programs at IUIU, received this prestigious academic honor. Their accomplishment is a testament to IUIU's commitment to fostering advanced research and contributing to the growth of education in Uganda and beyond.

Celebrating Excellence: Awards and Recognition

IUIU took the opportunity to recognize exceptional students who demonstrated outstanding achievements in academics, character, and extracurricular activities. The awardees were selected based on a comprehensive set of criteria that evaluated their academic performance, moral uprightness, leadership capabilities, and participation in religious and co-curricular activities.

Among the honorees were:

  • Matege Abutwahir:Recipient of the prestigious Prince Badru Kakungulu Award for best overall student.
  • Masika Nahiah:Awarded the IICO Award for the best female Muslim student.
  • Nangejje Abubekar:Recognized as the second-best overall student and received the Alumni Award.
  • Kabuye Nasser, Nakandi Shadai, Asaba Moses, and Oluka Samuel:Awarded the Rector's Award for Innovation and Creativity for developing an intelligent prediction system for gas cylinders.
  • Chemutai Afuwa Sadick:Recipient of the Shayk Abdallah Makki Sadiq Award for the best female student in mathematics.
  • Deqo Abdirashid Said:Awarded the Shayk Abdallah Makki Sadiq Award for the best female student in Islamic Studies.
  • Serwadda Abdulhad:Recognized as the best student in the Faculty of Management and received the ACCA Award.
  • Mugoya Abdul Gafaru:Awarded the Alumni Association award for the Best Economist.

These exceptional individuals, along withtheir fellow graduates, embody the spirit of IUIU, showcasing academic excellence, exemplary character, and a commitment to positively impacting society.
