September 19, 2024: Man Charged with Murder in Shooting Death of 17 Year Old High School Senior

Troy Lamar Fox, also charged with four counts of attempted murder in a separate shooting, faces the possibility of life in prison.

LONG BEACH, CA- Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced today that a 34-year-old man has been charged with the murder of 17-year-old Briana Soto, fatally shot in March, and four counts of attempted murder in connection with a separate shooting a month later.

"Briana Soto, a promising high school senior, was just steps from her home when she was tragically gunned down for no reason," District Attorney Gascón said. "She was eagerly looking forward to celebrating her 18th birthday and senior prom and instead, her family and our community are left to grieve an unimaginable loss. No parent should ever have to endure such a heartbreaking tragedy. We stand with them in their sorrow, and we're committed to seeking justice for their daughter and keeping a dangerous individual off the street."

Troy Lamar Fox (dob 08/08/90) of Long Beach is charged in case 24LBCF01129 with one count of murder in Soto's death and four counts of willful, deliberate and premeditated attempted murder for a shooting in April of this year. He also faces charges of having been convicted of committing serious felony crimes including attempted robbery and criminal threats.

Fox is being held on $6 million bail. The defendant pleaded not guilty on all counts during his arraignment on Sept. 17 in Dept. 1 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Long Beach Branch. His early disposition hearing is set for Sept. 24, Dept. 20 of the same courthouse. If convicted on all counts, the defendant faces life in prison.

On March 26, at around 8:30 p.m., Briana Soto, 17, was walking home from work at McDonald's when she was shot near 11th Street and Lewis Avenue. The victim died in a hospital three days later.

On April 9, Fox is suspected of exiting a car holding a rifle and walking in an alley near Pine Avenue toward 14th Street before firing multiple shots at another vehicle containing four minors.

The case is being investigated by the Long Beach Police Department.
