CREW requests DOJ records on judicial misconduct

The Department of Justice should acknowledge and demystify judicial misconduct to increase public accountability during a time when trust in the judicial system is at an all time low .

Judges who have committed misconduct must be reported to the DOJ's Office of Professional Responsibility and between financial year 2022 and 2023, OPR received five complaints and issued two referrals. The details of these complaints and referrals would shed light on both misconduct by members of the judiciary and how OPR handles misconduct allegations.The public deserves to know whether these critical investigations are carried out comprehensively.

CREW requested records from January 1, 2022 that relate to complaints or submissions to OPR regarding any potential misconduct by any member of the federal judiciary, as acknowledged by the 2023 Annual Report. Additionally, CREW requested records on referrals made by the OPR to any judicial disciplinary authority regarding possible misconduct from a member of the federal judiciary as well as any OPR reports or findings related to these referrals or the initial misconduct.
