Sustainable and inclusive prosperity

The EU is supporting free trade and joint research in the Indo-Pacific region.

The EU and its partners in the Indo-Pacific region are collaborating to enhance trade connections and diversify supply chains.

So far, the EU has concluded comprehensive trade agreements with Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore and Vietnam. New Zealand signed their free trade agreement (FTA) with the EU in July 2023.

An Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the EU and Kenya was agreed in December 2023. The EU-Kenya EPA is the most ambitious deal negotiated with an African country in terms of sustainability and entered into force on 1 July 2024.

FTA negotiations are continuing with Australia, Indonesia and India while the EU has also relaunched FTA negotiations with Thailand and the Philippines.

Since 2022, over 350 Horizon Europe grants (EU's key funding program for research and innovation) have been signed with Indo-Pacific participants, with more underway.
