Georgia DOT Seeks Public Input on Proposed US 17 Bridge/Widening Projects at Back River
SAVANNAH, GA - The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) is seeking public comments on the proposed solution to improve US 17 over the Back River in Chatham County, Georgia and Jasper County, South Carolina.
These projects are proposed to improve congestion and safety while matching the proposed adjacent US 17 widening currently under development in neighboring South Carolina. The proposed projects would construct a new two-lane bridge structure over the Back River to accommodate two additional travel lanes.
The public is encouraged to come out to view the proposed projects and discuss with Georgia DOT staff and give comments. The public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission building located at 110 E State St, in Savannah. There will be no formal presentation, so stop by at any point during the meeting.
If you are unavailable to attend the in-person meeting, Georgia DOT has an online platform to view project information and submit comments at https://www.dot.ga.gov/GDOT/Pages/PublicOutreach.aspx. Comments will be accepted concerning this project until Monday, December 16, 2024. Written statements may be submitted to:
