Burgess Announces the 2024 Congressional App Challenge Winners

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Chairman of the Rules Committee announced the 2024 Congressional App Challenge Winners. The annual app competition was open to private, public and home-schooled students in middle and high school who reside in and/or attend school in the 26th Congressional District of Texas.

This year's winning app was created by Mr. Jayanth Annabhimoju and Mr. Aaditya Matampalli, seniors at Frisco ISD's Lone Star High School. The winning app is entitled "StuFlo". StuFlo allows users to track tasks, add notes, and brainstorm responses to questions through hints provided by StuFlo's AI chatbot. This app addresses a relevant issue and provides a technologically complex, yet user-friendly solution. The students built an app with sufficient structure, efficiency, and efficacy to equip their peers with the ability to better manage their various responsibilities.

"It's no secret, Texan students are the most talented, skilled, and creative students in our nation," said Congressman Burgess. "I would like to congratulate Jayanth and Aaditya for their winning app in the Congressional App Challenge. Their app will help address a common issue faced by many students in America: the lack of effective time-management tools curated to their needs. Each student who participated in this year's contest will receive a "Special Certificate of Congressional Recognition." I am confident these students will continue to impact our state greatly with their technological innovations for years to come."

Background:

The CAC is an initiative of the U.S. House of Representatives to encourage students to participate in STEM, learn coding and inspire their pursuit of careers in computer science. Over 12,000 students across the nation participated in this year's Congressional App Challenge, coding over 3,900 unique and innovative apps! The Congressional App Challenge is the most prestigious national prize for students in computer science.

As the TX-26 district winners of the 2024 Congressional App Challenge, Jayanth and Aaditya will be invited to join other winners from across the nation to attend the #HouseOfCode Reception in Washington, D.C. in the Spring of 2025. The "StuFlo" app will be displayed electronically in the U.S. Capitol building for one year. In addition, the winning apps from participating congressional districts across the country will also be posted on the U.S. House of Representatives' website and the Congressional App Challenge website.

Students from Frisco ISD's Frisco High School, Lone Star High School, Rick Reedy High School, and Pioneer Heritage Middle School, Lewisville ISD's Flower Mound High School, Marcus High School, Hebron High School, and Lamar Middle School, Prosper ISD's Prosper High School, and Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science at the University of North Texas submitted entries in this year's 26th District contest. A three-judge expert panel reviewed student submissions. The panelists were Maria-Kristina Hayden: Founder & CEO of OUTFOXM, Inc., Bekah Sanchez: Division Chair, Information Technology & Computer Science at North Central Texas College, and Darrell Smith: Instructional Dean, Industrial & Engineering Technology, at North Central Texas College.
