Mansfield is continuing to monitor Tropical Depression Nineteen, currently approaching Central America. If named, this system will be called Sara, marking the 18th named storm in an unusually active Atlantic hurricane season. The storm is projected to move slowly and may make brief landfalls in Honduras over the weekend.
Forecast models indicate two primary scenarios: Tropical Depression Nineteen could weaken over land, reducing its potential impact on the US, or it may retain enough strength to enter the Gulf of Mexico. The storm's intensity will depend on its proximity to Honduras and the influence of warm Caribbean waters. Should the system avoid prolonged land interaction, these warmer sea temperatures may allow it to intensify, posing a greater threat to the southern US.
It remains too early to determine any specific impacts for portions of the eastern Gulf of Mexico, including Florida, in the middle of next week. Mansfield is monitoring the storm for any developments and remains committed to supporting our customers with proactive preparations and resources.
