Games, Laughter, and Community at Annual Mayor’s Picnic

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (September 19, 2024) - The New Brunswick Senior Resource Center continued its 50th-anniversary celebration in grand style with the annual Mayor's Picnic on September 12. It was a day of fun, games, and camaraderie for the city's senior citizens.

Dozens of seniors gathered at the center at 81 Huntington St. to participate in various activities, including bowling, beanbag toss, Frisbee, shuffleboard, badminton, horseshoes and bocce ball. The day also included complimentary breakfast and lunch, a raffle, and live music.

Mayor Jim Cahill and city employees volunteered their time to assist with the games and raffle drawings, contributing to the festive atmosphere.

Melanie Ford, director of the Senior Citizen Resource Center, said the social connections that are fostered between the seniors and the 10-person staff at the center make it feel like one big family.

The New Brunswick Senior Resource Center provides a range of services to seniors, including social activities, educational programs, and support for independent living. The center's mission is to create a nurturing environment and to celebrate life through physical and mental well-being.
