Home News Power Restoration Update for Barrier Islands

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (Oct. 17, 2024) - Many homes and businesses on our barrier islands are still without power after Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Florida Power & Light is actively working to restore electrical services, but Charlotte County Community Development emphasizes that safety is a top priority.

In some instances, FPL linemen may find that certain electrical services cannot be safely restored. If this happens, please follow these steps:
  1. Get an inspection: Have your electrical service inspected by a Florida state licensed electrical contractor, engineer, or architect to determine if any repairs are needed.
  1. Obtain repair permits: If repairs are necessary, you must get a permit from Charlotte County Community Development.
  1. Submit the required documentation: If no repairs are needed, the licensed professional must complete an Electrical Safety Inspection Form and submit it to the Community Development Department. This form is required for FPL to reconnect your power.

For more information, contact Community Development at 941-743-1201 or [email protected].

For recovery information, call the Charlotte County Emergency Operations Center at 941-833-4000 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday or visit www.CharlotteCountyFL.gov/storm.
