Disaster Resilience Strategy for Warrumbungle Shire Completed

Council has officially endorsed a comprehensive disaster resilience strategy, developed in close consultation with the community and after an extensive review of local infrastructure, particularly roads.

Water Technology Pty Ltd was engaged as the consulting firm to conduct the background analysis and assist in formulating the strategy.

Warrumbungle Shire Mayor, Councillor Kathryn Rindfleish highlighted the significance of the project saying "the Warrumbungle region is highly vulnerable to natural disasters such as bushfires, floods, and storms. With over 2,500 kilometres of roads across the area, it's crucial that we ensure our infrastructure can withstand these extreme events."

To ensure the strategy was tailored to local needs, community consultations were held across the region earlier this year, allowing residents to share invaluable insights and local knowledge that shaped the final plan.

"The input we received from our communities was vital to developing a strategy that addresses the unique risks we face," said Councillor Rindfleish. "This strategy focuses on strengthening our road infrastructure to be more resilient to future natural disasters, safeguarding not only our roads but also the people who rely on them."

The Disaster Resilience Strategy is funded through the Disaster Risk Reduction Fund (DRRF), a joint initiative of the Australian and New South Wales governments. "We are grateful to both the Australian and NSW Governments for their support in funding this important project," Cr Rindfleish concluded.
