The 10th Aviation Contingent of the Sri Lanka Air Force for United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) was deployed in December (06) this year. Subsequently, the Change of Command took place at the Sri Lanka Aviation Unit in Bria, Central African Republic on 14 December, reports SL Air Force media.
The incoming Contingent Commander of the 10th Contingent, Group Captain DUE De Silva, took charge from the outgoing 9th Contingent Commander, Group Captain RMAU Ratnayake at the Contingent Commander's office, it says.
The Sri Lanka Aviation Unit deployed for the MINUSCA, is tasked with carrying out air operations in Sector East, the largest sector of the country, while undertaking a range of operational duties including troop transport, insertion and extraction, air patrol (with armed troops onboard), quick reaction force transportation on request, search and rescue, CASEVAC/MEDEVAC missions, ISR mission, observer/ monitor tasks and aerial fire support etc. it says.
