DAVENPORT, IA - DECEMBER 16, 2024 - Iowa American Water, a subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., is proud to join the water industry in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), the landmark law that has safeguarded public health by protecting drinking water quality since its passage on December 16, 1974.
"Iowa American Water recognizes the SDWA's 50-year impact on water quality and emphasizes the need for continued investment to address emerging challenges in water safety and quality. From 2025 to 2030, we are expecting to invest about $269 million in infrastructure repairs and replacement and system resiliency. This investment aligns with the spirit of the Safe Drinking Water Act and its mission to safeguard public health for American Water customers and communities across the nation.
