Sacramento County Climate Action Plan Approved

​The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors voted yesterday to approve the Communitywide Climate Action Plan (CAP), which the Community Development Department's Planning and Environmental Review Division has been working on, in one form or another, for more than a decade.

The CAP is Sacramento County's plan for achieving the necessary greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions to ensure a livable and sustainable future for County residents. The CAP also provides a framework for adapting to the ongoing effects of climate change such as increased temperatures and extreme heat, potential for more severe precipitation events and flooding, increased drought, sea level rise and wildfire. These GHG reductions and adaptation measures guide the County to a more resilient future.

"We are thrilled that the Board of Supervisors voted to approve the Climate Action Plan," said Todd Smith, Planning Director. "Now that we've cleared this hurdle, we can get to work alongside various other County departments to implement the measures contained within the CAP and work on updates to the CAP that help us achieve Sacramento County's carbon neutrality goal."

Moving forward, annual GHG inventories and progress reports will be published on the County's Sustainability Dashboard and presented to the Board of Supervisors at least once a year.
